Hopeathon Hawaii is a hackathon with a positive twist. Competing teens attending middle and high school in the Hawaiian Islands will have a goal to produce a web based video game for younger children that encourages moral excellence based upon Eleven Positive Values shared throughout the world (generosity, diligence, patience, gratitude, humility, faith, hope, love and respect, temperance and chastity).
Eligibility
Individual teen students or a team of up to 4 teen students residing within the Hawaiian islands and attending public schools, private schools, charter schools, or be a member of a homeschool group located within the Hawaiian Islands. Students must be between 13 years of age the day Hopeathon Hawaii registration begins on 7/6/21 and 18 years of age the day Hopeathon Hawaii ends on 12/5/21 in order to compete for cash prizes.
Requirements
Games must be playable by the referees for free using a standard Internet browser (Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Microsoft Edge, Firefox). Contestants may use software of their choice that resides on a PC, Mac, or Linux platform to develop their game. Games created for iOS or Android apps are not allowed.
Genres that are allowed are Arcade, puzzle, platformer, racing, adventure, RPG, endless runner, story/Manga driven JRPG, visual novels, comedy, survival. Violent genres such as first-person shooter, fighter, and horror are not allowed.
Single player games only please. AR and VR games are allowed.
